This update adds handheld items in the form of a new clothing category. It also adds new events to the pirate ship, café, and elsewhere.
Huge thanks to Kirsty for handheld items, and for such fantastic sprites. They include an umbrella, parasols, a feather duster, and bags such as purses and backpacks. They work like other clothing, with a section at shops and wardrobes. Some items have the "bookbag" trait, which is useful at school. Future weapons will fit in this slot.
The new slot also allows for props during certain scenes. A new Whitney scene in the park makes good use of it.
Elsewhere, another stall will now be set up on the beach during summer. The PC's actions will determine whether this is a help or a hindrance to Robin's business. Be careful!
This was an unusually brief gap between updates, but I wanted something out for Christmas, and contributors have been very busy! Another thanks to Kirsty, to all the contributors, and to you for playing!

- Popcorn can be eaten in the park or at the beach to reduce trauma, or shared with Robin on a movie date.
- Added an orphanage event that lets the PC raise hope by giving an orphan a balloon.
- The PC can now buy gingerbread at the cafe during winter. Sprites by Beta.
- The sidebar image will now show handheld props in certain scenes, such as sharing a milkshake with love interests or smoking with Whitney.
- The pom poms hand item has been replaced with cheerleading gloves. Pom poms can now be found in the handheld category instead.
- Added the jingle-bell dress and sleeveless jingle-bell dress to the forest shop, unlocked during Christmas. Thanks to Beta.
- Added the jumper and festive/Christmas tree jumper to the clothing shop, as well as skull, heart, and ghost variants. Sprites by Kirsty.
- Edited some rainy weather events to account for the player carrying an umbrella or otherwise wearing rainproof clothing.
- Added new sections to the journal: Time-Sensitive, Reminders, and Holidays.
- Cleaned up café code.
Balance Changes
- Going commando will now increase exhibitionism once more, but only if the PC willingly chose to do so. Thanks to Lollipop Scythe.

ReplyDeleteA question though: is more pregnancy content in terms of NPCs reacting to the PC fathering/carrying their child coming or has it been gradually been entering the game? I haven't played in a few updates waiting for such content with Robin, Kylar, and that, but the Whitney cigarette mention has me curious since I don't remember reading about such content in other updates.
I think it's gradually coming. First was Black Wolf, now recently released Alex. I think all love interests (so far at least) have it planned.

DeleteHi Vrelnir, I've been following the game's development since the beginning of 2022, and I must admit that seeing so many additions and improvements makes me very excited for the future of the game. I'm going to write a rather long text but it's because I want to take advantage of the fact that you tend to respond a lot here and I would really like to see your points of view in relation to the optimization and implementation of some specific mechanics that I've been thinking about for a few days. I know it's right to use the Discord suggestions tab, but I really wanted to know your point of view on the points I'm going to present here, in advance, I apologize for your stolen time, and I'm happy if you read everything. 1⁰ love interests: personally my favorite mechanic, and I would really like it to be more in-depth, I know that the plan now is to add multiple things so that in the future I can take advantage of this to deepen what already exists, but at the same time I feel that the relationship that we have with our love interests are very superficial, I'll use Robin as an example because she's my favorite NPC, I genuinely wanted to get to know her more, even though we have a decent number of events with her, sometimes I just wish we could get together choose what we would say to her, not something very complex, but instead of being that repetitive text (you have a pleasant/friendly conversation) countless question options could appear, such as "what's your favorite outfit?" (it's a silly example just to get an idea) suggest things, like going to the shower together, this would be very interesting for us to know how our love interest works, know their hobbies, a possible past, or how they feel about something or some npc, seriously a great way to get to know our romantic interests better. Another very welcome thing is also something similar, but with our PC expressing himself, for example, I personally really like long socks, and it's really interesting that our character says something like "long socks I like, could you wear them?" or take advantage of our character's traits such as sadist or masochist and ask if we could be more aggressive, or ask to be attacked, I believe that this serious mechanic is very difficult to implement, but it would definitely be incredible.

3⁰ Being the predator: I know this would be a lot of work, but I wanted to know if at some point this mechanic will exist, or at least in some event we can be the predator, there was a time when I was robbing the houses on Rua danubio, and There's that event with the gagged woman tied up and with a vibrator, I thought if we had some high level, I thought we could take advantage of the situation, it could increase the trauma and decrease purity, or something like that, but that's just an idea too .
4⁰: More fetishes: as the name of the game says "degress of lewdity", it's seriously interesting to implement most of the fetishes that exist, precisely because in my opinion, this is the game's difference, and even though I've read that events like "watersports" are not they are of great interest to the creator, I still think this should be more comprehensive, since we are in a lost city, nothing fairer than having the most lost fetishes possible, anyway, this is another random idea too In general, that's it, I hope I didn't bother you too much with the text, but I didn't want to create false expectations and I also wanted to know your view on these ideas and mechanics. DeleteI agree love interests have a lot of potential for more slice of life style content. The only thing holding it back is the time it would take to write it.
I also agree it would be cool to give named NPCs more visual representation, though as you say, I don't want to intrude on the way people imagine those characters. We'd need to represent more than the PC currently can, I believe.
The option to be the predator is on the maybe pile for the distant future. It would expand the scope of the game a lot, and it's a full plate already!
I'm not against adding more fetishes, but the muses land where they will.

And when I checked the code, I found that there should be a new event if the PC's shotgun count is greater than 1, but it hasn't been properly displayed in the game.

DeleteI think characters with high sex stats should be able to have a mode that lets them lighten up and enjoy non-con sex. Could reduce trauma and stress, at the cost of making the encounter something you cant fight through, and doubles rape fame (And add sex fame) gained in scripted events.
ReplyDeleteShould not reduce trauma build up of particularly brutal assaults, like the drug dealer gang bang for example. Might also lend the pc in hotter water, like a rare chance of being put in a car and kidnapped or called boring by people actually wanting a fight.

Would need high pro, exhib, beast, stats to increase them willingly though...

I'm more interested in the addiction side of things. Maybe stuff like cigarettes can reduce stress but if you don't get your fix withdrawal can cause negatives. Maybe stimulants could be used outside math comp and instead used like coffee+++. Heroin could be added and reduces trauma but easy to get hooked on.

DeleteI really appreciate how much room for the player's imagination you reserve, especially in regards to the imagery of the LIs.
DeleteI've always thought that the small amount of visual art (and non-existent sound effects) is what makes DoL most fascinating as a largely text-based game. Of course the pixel art you and the contributors provide is still invaluable and essential, but it plays a supporting rather than a defining role. The here and now is a wonderful balance.
No matter how far the graphical technology of games has progressed, the ability of the human mind to imagine images (sorry if some people are mind blind, but I'm sure there's unique beauty in your fantasies as well) - this kind of ambiguous, sort of could call it ineffective images still has its own special beauty, before mankind completely gave up on their biological bodies. I love the imagery that comes with that ambiguity.
What anyone gets out of the DoL's experience is unique to them alone.
Games that are immersive are amazing, but DoL is also a unique game.
These are, of course, just my humble opinions, and I respect anyone's opinion on this. I'm very confident that you know what's best for DoL as well, and I'll be supportive of whatever you decide to modify and improve DoL in the future.

One of the advantages of a text-based game is the room it leaves for player imagination, but I still wanted a little art. A little art can go a long way, and I'm glad you like the approach in DoL.
Mirroring other people's language habits is semi intentional. I'm aware I'm doing it, but it just happens naturally. It feels polite, and I think it works both ways. It's kind of you to say I'm friendly, but that's easy with a community like this!
I'm not sure where the name Vrelnir came from! I needed a name, and there it was. I liked the sound of it.

DeleteSome suggestions for things to be added when Sydney gets pregnancy content (for Rite of Promise path)
ReplyDeleteThere should be a new evaluation/ancient holy ritual, to allow two initiates who have been promised to each other to start having kids. While still require that both initiates have retained high purity and be in good grace with the temple.
And if passed, both initiates will be asked to hand over all items that would prevent or lower the chance of a pregnancy happening (condom, pills, etc). And being caught with some on you will lead to being punished, as the temple now expects the two of you to start having kids.
And if both of you have become a monk/nun at the temple (either before or after you've been given permission to have kids), then you could gain access to more private quarters, where you'll be sharing a bed, and hopefully concive (the private quarters are there to not disturb the other monks/nuns who are trying to sleep, and to not induce any lust to the other monks/nuns)
Jordan could offer prayers to increase the chance of a pregnancy happening, if the pc/sydney is not pregnant. If the pc/sydney is pregnant, then depending on how close to childbirth they are, for either the pregnancy to be safe, or for the child to be born healthy and without any complications during childbirth.

Q2. When Briar, Bailey and etc were attending school, were Leightonwas teacher? I don't think they were school's head at the time. If so, what subjects were they taught?
Q3. Has River heard the bad rumors about Bailey? The script from the kitchen setting up in the loft shows that they knows something about Bailey. What does River think of Bailey and orphanage?
Q4. Does River remember all the students live in the orphanage? The scripts of math contests and wearing sunglasses certainly shows them remember that PCs don't have parents. Are there any teachers remember that information? I think Sirris doesn't remember that...
Q5. What is Avery, Bailey and Briar's assessment in social circle? Do they have a good reputation in social circle?
Q6. How would teachers react if the high-trauma(high as visibly disturbed or even more) PC suddenly hugged teachers hoping for a little comfort?
Q7. I assume Briar has quite a few exes as well. How many exes do they have? Did they have any genuine love among them?
Q8. How much money did Whitney promise to receive for selling the PC?
Q9. I saw an answer that Whitney might become having an acting career or a neurosurgeon in the future. So their school violence has no effect on their future at all? They don't face the consequences by their act? I don't think their going to the uBrothel was facing the consequences of their bullying. How many victims have been bullied by them? I don't think they just bullying the PC...
Q10. What would Whitney react if they saw their child being bullied in the exactly same way they bullied anothers in the back days? Like...their child was forced to get a tattoo, or had a pen forced into their body?
Not Vrel, but I believe someone asked similar questions before. For Q8, they earn at least 500, and in Q10, they would intervene with the bullying.

ReplyDeleteAlex recently has become one of my favorite LIs so I’ve got some questions about them. First time I’m not fawning over Whitney, even though they still live in my head rent free
1.PC or booze. What will Alex choose? (Woah that rhymes)
2. Since Alex has so many siblings, did they all live under one roof? And if so, did they end up having to share rooms?
3. Are we gonna see more of Alex’s parents in the game? I haven’t seen them react to the PC and Alex’s children since I met their parent before the pregnancy and built the nursery before birth, but I’d love to see them react to/interact with heir grandchild(ren)
4. I saw the new event with refusing to buy alcohol for Alex. If the PC justified this by saying it’s for the sake of their children, would Alex have still been as angry or would it have mellowed their anger? Both high dom and low dom Alex
5. My PC has combat game as notorious and I love that she could threaten Remy’s thugs and have a guaranteed chance at making them flee. How would Alex react to such a sight if they don’t already? (Cause it’s honestly fucking hilarious to see big tough goons run away from a PC with the tiny height setting) If they don’t react to this in-game yet, would we get a small line of dialogue in the future?
6. Now for the real question that I don’t know if you answered before. What’s Alex’s favorite barn animal?
7. How would Alex react to a fox PC breaking into the chicken coop? (I had to ask this so bad)
8. If Alex never worked on the farm and lived a normal life in town, what career would they pursue?

Finally tried the new temple content from a few patches ago and I’m really enjoying the new story content. I do have a few questions though:
ReplyDelete1) Grace seems to be increasing much more slowly now. Is that intentional? I also have the fallen angel transformation now, not sure if that affects grace.
2) Am I safe from being possessed on a blood moon as long as I sleep in the temple quarters? Seems like a pretty big bonus if so. (For the record, I’ve stolen the necklace so the wraith is actively angry at me.)
I'm curious, are you going to add anything to the journal to tell you how many pairs of underwear you have on you from stealing them from the pool lockers?

ReplyDeleteWhile filling out the post-partum player poll/survey thing, and thinking about Bailey's rent, I wondered about how deeply being freed from being forced to pay them was thought about, and i'd like to offer a thought I had.
ReplyDeleteBeing completely free from Bailey's payment would be a fantastic endgame to be able to work towards I think. Maybe there could be a huge sum debt they tell us about, like, 100 mil+ or whatever at the start of the game (which could be turned off, increased or decreased at the start of the game, or during with cheats), half of our weekly payments could go towards that, with an option to give direct payments towards that during the week? And when/if we pay it off completely, Bailey could kick us out, preventing us from using the orphanage as a safe sleeping space. The same for Robin if you end up taking on their debt too.
Perhaps You could end up renting or buying a place on Domus or Danbue street for the two of you, or just yourself if you don't end up taking on their debt.

ReplyDeleteI've got some questions about the animal transformations, if you don't mind.
1) Does Eden take off the bell collar and replace it with the leashed collar? I want to make a cat PC to romance him, but there aren't any ways to maintain the transformation if he takes off the bell collar. At least with wolf PC, you can have sex with the wolves in the forest or eat wolfshrooms, but Cat PC's are out of luck.
2) I know the LI's would like any of the animal transformations, but which would they like best?
3) What animal transformations do you have planned or are on your maybe pile? Personally, I'd love to see a bunny transformation. Bonuses could be gaining submissiveness everyday, like a counterpart to the wolf transformation, a bonus to kicking damage, and a bonus to fertility and chance of multiples.
4) I love that you get the compound horns with the combined demon/cow transformation. I'd love to see more synergies like that between the two transformation types. Maybe the chimera can hit people with it's tail, and the hellhound gets a more vicious bite, or maybe some claws? I'd love to see the kitsune as a divine synergy for the fox, too. Though, I'm not sure which of the current divine transformations it would be attached to. Maybe it could be a unique transformation you unlock? That one would take some thought.

ReplyDeleteJust wondering if there are any plans to add strap on support to the wardrobe so they work more seamlessly with outfits? Or some way to put them on while carrying them? Attempting to put on an outfit that contains a strap on that you are not currently wearing yields the message that the strap on was not found in the wardrobe, despite them not actually being stored there. This makes them rather inconvenient to use as there are few locations where they can be equipped and no other way to put them on or take them off, and carrying them seems to serve no purpose unlike carrying other toys.
The recent update adding a handheld slot makes me think something like this would be possible for strap ons and other similar devices/clothing and would be a massive QOL for those that use them.

Another thing I noticed that I feel used to be different: I cannot see any nipple in the breast sprite during combat, is this normal?
