This update includes a new encounter type, adds weekly exams to school, adds a new area for treasure-hunters, and sprinkles events throughout the world.
I've been thinking about including exams for a while. Swotting is still the most reliable way to do well, but there are others. Kylar is always eager to help. Whitney is less useful. Cheating is possible, though the teachers will be watching. I hope it gives more context to the school skills, and makes raising those stats more interesting.
The moor will make heavy use of lurkers, so I wanted to develop their encounter mechanics beforehand. The mechanics also cover other creatures too small to be normal beasts/monsters, but too big to make up swarms. I sprinkled some other events around the world that make use of them, including in the new area. There's more planned for them in the future. Lacking a way to represent creatures of that size in combat felt restrictive.
The squirmy cave was planned for several updates ago, but was pushed back for time. It seemed a good location to tackle with the new encounter mechanics ready. The cave should serve as an alternative to lake diving. You'll need to go diving to find it. It's a criminal haunt, but there are more dangerous things down there.
I'm ready to begin work on the moor, which will include the last major additions before the jump to 0.3. However, I've been hoping to add snow and wintry events this December. I'd like one more update before Christmas, and the moor might be a bit chunky to finish in time. There are also some Robin scenes in the pipeline I'd like to include soon if possible. Not sure what order to expect.

Patch notes
- Added a secret cave along the coast. Smugglers use it to traffic goods, and other creatures lurk below.
- School skills are now increased by passing exams held every Friday.
- + Science and similar effects increase the likelihood of passing the exam. There are other ways to improve your chances, but other factors hurt.
- Reaching 200% understanding will increase your skill without an exam on Sunday morning.

Balance Changes
- Pulling lurkers and similar creatures off your body now has a 100% success rate when your grip is described as "iron", regardless of physique. Physique instead impacts the chance for bonus grippage when strengthening your grip.
- The lustful trait can now cause spontaneous orgasms even at high purity.
- Maggots now have a small chance of appearing during the brothel swarm show. Thanks to Lollipop Scythe.
- Losing your oral virginity to a large tentacle will now longer be quite so devastating.
- Harper can now attempt to capture any cow PC running in the park at night, not just those who are exposed.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed an error found after declining Robin's help in the garden.
- Briar will now mention the sex machine to male NPCs when listing the available shows, should anal be enabled.
- Fixed a bug that allowed the PC to suck multiple breasts at once. Thanks to braymann.
- Fixed an error found when turning yourself in to the police when giving the option of escaping through the strange hatch.
- Fixed an error found when thrown from the landfill following an encounter.

DeleteWould you be against adding STDs? Nothing serious mind you, no one likes STDs after all, just for a tad bit of realism and increased danger in certain encounters. You could make it so only certain encounter even have the chance to give STDs, such as when pulled behind the dumpster.

They could be things like ones that increases pain over time or increase sensitive to pain, prevents stress loss over time, increases arousal, decreases will power, decrease physique, decrease beauty, things like that.
Most importantly and the main reason I suggest this, it would provide more reasons and opportunities to visit Doctor Harper, who happens to be one of my favorite characters.
I'm mildly against adding STDs. If I did include them, I'd probably stick to fantastical diseases.

DeleteAs far as I know I can answer some of your questions:
— Buying some things for our PC's is on the maybe pile, I think we'll be able to buy a computer or a phone for various purposes.
— I don't go through the museum very often, but I know well that Winter talks in detail about the relics we bring them, so I'm sure there will be new scenes.
— I'm not sure if Bailey will allow us to have a cat or dog as a pet, but at least I hope to sneak small pets into our room, like birds, rabbits or hamsters. I have suggestions to have a mascot, like hiding them in the loft or have one of our love interests (except Robin) take care of it for us, but I think that Vlernir has his own plans in that regard. If you want a deviant love interest there is the black wolf, some user suggested before a scene about the black wolf scaring Bailey for our sake, I'll cross fingers for Vler to put it in his to-do list.
Some of the teachers will never try anything with their students (like Doren or River), but other such as Leighton and Mason are on the maybe pile, although Vler is concerned about to raising too much our possible love interests. In the future we'll see if any of these possibilities materialize.
— I think that hunger and health are tied to our fatigue status bar, but your idea of eat something else than the food served at the school's canteen is good: I remember some things like Kylar saying that they buy some food after school, or that Whitney have a sweet tooth, and there are a shopping stall at Connudatus st where we can buy some candies (although I thing we only have access to it if we are naked in public). Adding more options to buy food will lead to new scenes with school's love interests and even with some of our classmates.
I like the idea of having a health status bar too, it would be the perfect addition to also add the school's nursery and to visit Dr Harper more often.
— I don't know if it'll be action with mature NPC's, the older ones we interact with the most are Leighton (I think they're past their 50's), Darryl, Eden and Bailey (mid 30's). Vler will polish our interactions with Leighton and have something reserved with Bailey if I'm not wrong, so we'll have to wait and see.
— a skill regarding our housekeeping abilities is in Vlernir to-do list, and will affect our cooking skills too (I would like to do something more to Eden too. They catch a prey everyday so I think it would be cool if we could prepare them a soup or a well cooked deer steak,abd personally I'll love to make them a very romantic dinner😍)

Hunger isn't planned outside of specific scenarios, as I fear managing it would be tedious.
More scenes involving older NPCs are planned.
Joseph is right that a housekeeping skill is on the to-do list. You'll be able to make use of it at Eden's cabin.

DeleteI thought that Eden has a very sweet side when we're on the leash, and the most sweet of them were when they read books with us I front of the fireplace. But when we manage to win Eden's trust, that time simply dissapears and is replaced with the shooting practice.
Although we have a chance to have an encounter with Eden while practicing, I don't think gaining shooting skills is necessary at the moment (there's no way that Eden let us use the shotgun outside of practices, and there's no way to get a gun yet in DoL), so I'm hella happy that reading time with Eden is back.

I was hoping for a turquoise color hair, or "Hatsune Miku" blue.
Or more styles, like high pigtails, double buns or even two tone color options? (Possibly available like wigs? I see them a lot in Jfashion!)
I've also been thinking about makeup as an option, including as a forced feminization option? Maybe there's cute, classy, goth and slutty options? Idk. It might be hard to add to sprites, I don't do pixel art much, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
I think we had a turquoise labeled teal and it did have something resembling Mikus hair in the previous updates but they removed that. I was modeling my character off of miku and was kind of disappointed at how dark it got the later the updates were.

Love the update so far, I have been having fun messing around with the new stuff. I have been trying to trigger the new compound event but have been unable to so far. I looked at the code and it looks like it should have a 25% chance so you might need to take a look to see if its working as intended. That being said I may just be me misreading it or just bad luck (or good luck for my PC). Thanks for the update and have a good day.

Delete1) Ideally the new UI will be applied to swarms as well. The code was contributed and more advanced than I'm used to.
2) The option to choose your own colour for eyes and hair would be cool too. So would highlights.
3) I'd be thrilled if my game inspired anyone like that. I started the game with Twine + the SugarCube format, and found it great as someone new to programming. I moved from Twine to Tweego when the project became too large for the former.
Some general advice I followed that worked for me: Set aside time each day to work on the project. Make it part of your routine. It doesn't need to be long. I was doing 60 minutes a day at first. If you just work on it when you feel like it, you might get a lot done at the start, then burn out.
Don't talk about the project until you have something reasonably developed to show. I've heard that talking about it can hurt your motivation.
As for Steam and other platforms, I'm not sure they'll accept a game like DoL.
I found an infinite money glitch in the game you can do as early as the first 20 days of playing. Don't know if it'll still be a the game after this update. I'm playing on the phone version of the game with cheats off.

But anyway, I really appreciate your work on this update, Vlernir. The wasps thing may not be totally to my liking but I'll make sure to experience this and each of the events you added as I have already been doing.
Talking of other topics, I'm glad that you included school exams, I'll be a pleasant dinamic to pass through every week. But I also expect that exams don't skyrocket our grades even more: I remember I made a suggestion to making some adjustments to the 3-stars system for school grades so our grades and the traits that comes with them don't raise so quickly. I expect that if we lose or miss the exams our grades decrease greatly, it'll be a good chance to add a counterweight to the 3-stars system.
For the moment, rest a lot and enjoy the work done, do not overexert yourself when working on this month's update and take care. I'll do the usual and save my two PC's data and download the update.
Pd: I said that I have a suggestion for the past Halloween event, but now that we'll use this blog instead of the past update blog, I'll post it here. But I'll wait a bit for users to thank you and give their opinion on this update (as I said, I don't want some new players who haven't passed the event to run into such a spoiler)

But despite of my disliking I don't toogle off tentacle encounters either: If you took the hard work of imagining, writing and coding these encounters, I think is my duty as a gamer to accept it and play, so I can have a complete experience of the game that you put all your effort. Besides, having knowledge of the game (even of the things that I don't like) helps me to continue contributing my opinions about the game and to help you answer questions to new users. I think this is a way to support you.

ReplyDeleteA PC without the Crossdresser trait can actually acquire it by crossdressing and revealing their true gender during encounters 100 times. However, it's not a gradual transition, the trait simply pops in your list after you reach 100. I'd personally love if crossdressing had some sort of gradual buildup like Masochism does, though I'm not smart enough to actually suggest how to implement that.

ReplyDeleteBecause I dont remember them being able to level them up so fast in the past (around version 1.x and 2.x or so).Were they nerfed / encounters give more exp or I just remember wrong. Sidenote: I do have option for only biggest cocks to appear so maybe - bigger coc during encounter gives more exp - so that is why it is so fast now ?
Sexual skills weren't changed in general, but there are now more opportunities to raise hand skill. Physique and willpower have been adjusted a bunch. Especially willpower. Physique might be too easy to keep topped for some builds.

ReplyDeleteSo far, most beast encounters are lackluster compared to human encounters, but you have to enable them if you wanna see the new encounters.
It would be possible. We need a whole array of beast toggles. Ideally you should have enough control to disable realistically sized slugs, but keep the fantastically large ones enabled, for example.

I just want to ask a question regarding this new update - my school stats were A* in every subject, but after taking the tests the % of A* went back to zero, and then later on they went into minus percentages? It's never happened before, and I think it was the result of the tests because I received no distinction in History the first week and then the second week I dID get a distinction and then the percentage went back to zero. Also idk whether this is on purpose but it's rEALLY hard to increase subject stats now - I studied three times for every subject and they all only increased by 1%. I'm not whether you meant to design it like that so I thought I'd mention it :'D Although my stats are a bit screwed now I still love the new update, I love having stuff to do in school :'D
ReplyDeleteExcelling in an exam when you already have an A* gives you a distinction, and resets your understanding to 0%. Your understanding should be decaying by 7% every Sunday morning, but no more than that.
DeleteThe bar in characteristics now measures understanding. Understanding has no direct impact on your skill. That now comes entirely from your trait. So an A* in science means your science skill is maxed, regardless of how far along your bar is.
Understanding should be slow to increase at A*, but that sounds too slow.

ReplyDeleteWhat i was saying, shortly, is: your game is so fucking awesome. I encountered it first few years ago, and was stunned with it's complicity and emptiness, but when i grow to be more hardcore "gamer", i tried it again, and was stunned by endless possibilities you can strive for. I can't cover up anything within the game for two-three playthroughs even with help of wiki, and still enjoy more and more "new" content here and there. Playing your game with goal of becoming angel with beautiful trait and x2 allure weight was incredibly fun and hard as well - i acquired a habit to save in the middle of the day as well, just to tell how much i had to save and load from time to time, i even learn about pseudorandomness of the game, and how to manipulate encounters through your own actions. In the end i get it straight ASAP, but forgot to become fallen angel, just to get the feat, so later i gave up on that.
Also, feats are awesome. I don't rely on them with "catch them all" idea, but i end up collecting at least some of them by different playstyles. It can give player some linearity they can lack.
Anyway, when i can propose more hardcore stuff like urethral insertions, it's not really necessary even if will fit in some corners. Can we have instead more of... voluntary stuff? I mean, i tried to "befriend" Remi on riding school, so later she would introduce me to, well, i don't want to spoil things for others. But i doubt it's possible, not even "voluntary" part within other Remi's activities. Later, when i saw ability to blackmail Leighton, i also wondered why main hero can steal her watch, but can not propose to her to make same things with hero, as it was in blackmail stuff. I mean, we have Promiscuity 5 or 6 at max, why main protagonist can't do more stuff voluntary and by themselves, for sake of more freedom or money or whatever(even sex)? I don't know how much will "enthusiasm" fit within your ideas of the game, and if it will not - feel free to neglect my ideas. I still think you made an awesome game, which i will definely keep in mind for years more.
...also, if Remi is off-limits, some minor improvements can be made to sneaking in the barn at night as well, with Alex caughting hero and different outcomes avaiable, based on deviancy. Yeah, still dreaming about voluntary stuff. Will hang around in this page for a few days, to read your reply, feel free to ask for more of my feedback or it's explaination, if you are interested. What i saw already in 0.2.18.2, is some interesting stuff with teachers, for example in science lessons when you are being asked to strip. I hope other teachers have that "developement" with them as well, the more i can go within, the better, even if i don't know if i saw the end of content at all. It can be tied up to exams as well, and my voluntary ideas with Leighton can work with passing exams too.

More voluntary lewdity would be great though. You're right that you can't become Remy's cattle willingly. The main reason is just the time it would take to develop. That said, I'd like to develop Leighton's scenes into something more cohesive, and giving the PC opportunities to take some measure of control would be great.
I'd be happy to read more ideas if you're happy to share.

For those searching the cave i think i found it, i go to the beach then swim away (I don't remember where) then it say rocks, you go there and go up so you will find a pool (probably) and you will go deeper into the water (You will need S skill in swim i think, i don't know) and there you will be in the cave and there are things who will need Skuldery

ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a bit fucked in the head, but I have a thirst for despair and melancholy. This game does deliver somewhat, but it feels a bit... lacking. There's lots of "sad shit" potential that isn't utilized. We have stuff like the dungeon, kidnapped children in the basements, and the docks incident which are great, but there could be more. Part of this is just me wanting depressing shit to happen, but another part is that I want to see the PC rise above it all despite the trauma and such. There's a beauty to it, even if fucked.

Involving transformation components in encounters is a good idea, and I like the thought of making them erogenous zones.

Weird. I just tested it and for some reason the attitude effect is reversed, having it checked has it as off so no tail blocking. At least when it comes to soaked clothing.

Several months ago I said it's something Eden sees every day, so I don't see why there is an exhibition check there. "Oh no, I can't go this way!" just seems ridiculous to me still.

I kinda like the idea gaming tournaments in the arcade where we can either we can play solo or invite Robin or Kylar to play with us. It can improve status and reflex. Speaking of reflex.
ReplyDeleteI kinda like the idea of reflex stats, where you improve by playing games in the arcade or in Robin's room. If you're reflex is high enough, you have a chance to dodge or get away before you get grabbed.
If you have a bigger body, reflex is kinda bad because its slower. But its very powerful on defiance acts.
For smaller body, its very powerful because its faster and nimble. But defiance acts are less effective.
I though if defiance is harder on smaller body, why not make it effective on getting away to not get caught?
Reflex also gets lowered like masochism or physique if not used constantly, certain things can temporarily lower your reflex like being drugged, drunk, tied up, etc.
